About "What Makes Jackie Protest?"

I wrote this article in early 1996, based on an interview study of religious social activists.  I tried to get it published at that point, but the article was really dealing with two things at once -- one research-based and one theoretical.  The referees rightly asked me to choose one or the other.

To make a long story short, I was not able to find time to make the needed revisions.  So I stuck the paper in a drawer and forgot about it.  Here I am, nearly ten years later, still impressed with the research material but not at all willing to put the time into reframing the piece -- let alone to include whatever literature has come out since then.  It is a "working paper" in the best sense of the word.
